Metal vs. tooth-colored filling

Benefits of Tooth Colored Fillings

Tooth colored fillings are a versatile and safe treatment that can address a wide range of restorative needs. Patients who undergo quick and painless tooth colored fillings placement at our Amarillo dental office can benefit from:

  • Replacement for silver amalgam fillings: Many of our Amarillo patients seek tooth colored fillings as a safe replacement option for silver amalgam fillings. Metal fillings are dark and noticeable against the surrounding enamel, which can detract leave you feeling self-conscious about your smile. Replacing the metal fillings with tooth colored alternatives allows patients to enjoy a more natural-looking smile.
  • Restored tooth structure following decay or trauma: The primary function of tooth colored fillings is to restore strength to your tooth’s natural structure after cavity removal or an injury that results in a cracked or chipped tooth. During your treatment, one of our doctors can artfully place the fillings so that it simultaneously enhances your smile while protecting your tooth from further damage or decay.
  • Affordable treatment: Tooth colored fillings are one of the most affordable restorative treatments we offer. Some dental insurance plans even cover part of the cost associated with this treatment.
  • A quick procedure: Minor chips or other forms of damage can be treated in well under half an hour, meaning your treatment can be scheduled during a break in your day without the need for follow-up visits. Our office uses a special light to speed the curing process once the fillings have been placed.

Are You a Candidate?

If you have recently experienced an injury that resulted in a chipped or cracked tooth, you may be a great candidate for tooth colored fillings. If the area of decay is substantial or subject to heavy chewing pressure, one of our dentists may recommend an alternative restorative treatment, such as a dental crown. Candidates for tooth colored fillings may also have cosmetic concerns, such as the presence of silver amalgam fillings.

Tooth colored fillings restore oral health using natural-looking composite resin.

How Are Tooth Colored Fillings Placed?

The placement of tooth colored fillings is quick and pain-free. One of our dentists will begin by cleaning the surface of your tooth. A special etching liquid is then used to create a better grip for the filling. Then, the tooth colored fillings will be color-matched to the surface of your tooth to ensure aesthetically pleasing results.

After the fillings are placed, a special curing light will be used to harden the composite resin. After confirming that the fillings do not interfere with your bite or adjusting the fit as necessary, your treatment will be complete. While side effects are rare, some patients may experience temporary temperature sensitivity.
